HASBAT POY & YPOY

Also under the direction of HASBAT's Awards and Scholarships Committee are its Professional and Young Professional of the Year honorees. Members are nominated for the POY and YPOY awards by their peers - other members of HASBAT. The winner in each category is then recognized at the Huntsville Association of Technical Societies (HATS) annual POY dinner.


HASBAT SB ADVOCATE OF THE YEAR

HASBAT's Awards and Scholarships Committee also oversees the nomination and selection process for the Small Business Advocate of the Year Award which is presented at the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber of Commerce Small Business Awards Celebration. HASBAT AWARD INFORMATION

HATS Professional of the Year

Overview:The Professional of the Year (POY) awards banquet provides HATS member organizations the opportunity to publicly recognize one of their own for exceptional professionalism. Each member organization selects its own POY and the HATS POY Selection Committee selects one of the POYs as the recipient of the Joseph P. Moquin Award from those submitted. The criteria for the awards are as follows.

Criteria for a POY Award:

  • He/she has retained membership in the professional organization (HASBAT) that is a member in good standing of HATS.
  • He/she has demonstrated excellence in some professional (technical, managerial, or community) work or activity that is concerned with broad and beneficial technical, scientific, social or economic consequences. This excellence shall be exemplified in his or her workplace, in the professional organization in which they are participant members of, and/or in volunteer efforts in the community.
  • He/she has exhibited an extraordinary dedication, creativity or leadership in that work or activity that results in excellent contributions to the technical and economic development of the City of Huntsville and the surrounding areas, exemplifying “Passing the Torch” activities such as education, mentorship, training, knowledge transfer, STEM initiatives, etc.

  • Criteria for the Moquin Award:

    This award will be given to the POY from among the current year's group of nominees (nominated by their respective member organizations), who will stand out as one who has stood above their peers by providing exemplary leadership to the North Alabama technical community. This involvement and leadership shall have been long-standing, with commitment and consistency.

    HATS Young Professional of the Year

    Overview

    Professional of the Year (POY) awards banquet provides HATS member organizations the opportunity to publicly recognize one of their own for exceptional professionalism. Each member organization selects its own YPOY and the HATS YPOY Selection Committee selects one of the YPOYs as the recipient of the HATS Young Professional of the Year Award from those submitted. The criteria for the awards are as follows.

    Criteria for a YOUNG Professional of the Year Award:

    • He/she has retained membership in the professional organization (HASBAT) that is a member in good standing of HATS. must be 35 years old or younger to qualify for the YPOY award.
    • He/she has demonstrated excellence in some professional (technical, managerial, or community) work or activity that is concerned with broad and beneficial technical, scientific, social or economic consequences. This excellence shall be exemplified in his or her workplace, in the professional organization in which they are participant members of, and/or in volunteer efforts in the community.
    • He/she has exhibited an extraordinary dedication, creativity or leadership in that work or activity that results in excellent contributions to the technical and economic development of the City of Huntsville and the surrounding areas, exemplifying “Passing the Torch” activities such as education, mentorship, training, knowledge transfer, STEM initiatives, etc. He/she exemplifies the dedication and importance of our young professional demographic to the community.

Criteria for the Young Professional of the Year Award

This award will be given to the YPOY from among the current year's group of nominees (nominated by their respective member organizations), who will stand out as one who has stood above their peers by providing exemplary leadership to the North Alabama technical community. This involvement and leadership shall have been long-standing, with commitment and consistency.

Small Business Advocate of the Year

Qualified nominees are local individuals or organizations who have been instrumental in fostering a culture of identifying innovation in small businesses and partnering with those businesses to win government contracts. Support may also be demonstrated by activities and/or undertakings accomplished in advising and advancing business interests for local high tech small businesses.

Criteria for the Small Business Advocate (Individual)

  • Nominee must have a minimum of 3 years of service advocating for small businesses in the Huntsville Community
  • Actively promotes and/or supports small business organizations
  • Supportive of legislation that promotes small business
  • Actively involved in pro-active business development efforts to include SB in new procurements.
  • Engaged in civic and community activities that promote small business

In order to be eligible for nomination, the primary physical location of the individual or organization must be within the corporate limits of Madison County.

HASBAT SCHOLARSHIPS

HASBAT SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION

HASBAT scholarships for the 2024-2025 academic year are due by May 15, 2024.

Each year HASBAT awards three $2,500 academic scholarships to students from local universities. Additionally HASBAT & AUSA award 2 $2,500 academic scholarships to students from local high schools and universities. 


Eligible students must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be a full-time upcoming junior or senior college student (HASBAT )
  • Must be a full-time College Freshmen or High School Senior (HASBAT & AUSA)
  • Must major in an advanced technology degree including, but not limited to science, technology, engineering, or math
  • Must maintain a GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Must be interested in pursuing a career in advanced technology field in the north Alabama area upon graduation
